Malala Yousafzai - Little People, Big Dreams Picture Book
This colour illustrated hardback picture book is a fantastic way to acquaint young readers with the incredible life (so far!) of Malala Yousafzai.
When Malala was born in Mingora, Pakistan, her father was determined she would have every opportunity that a boy would have. She loved getting an education, but when the Taliban came to power, girls were no longer allowed to go to school. Malala spoke out in public about this, which made her a target for violence. She was shot in the left side of her head and woke up in a hospital in England. Finally, after long months and many surgeries, Malala recovered, and resolved to become an activist for girls’ education.
Now a recent Oxford graduate, Malala continues to fight for a world where all girls can learn and lead. Malala is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate.
Please note the shooting of Malala is covered sensitively in this story, in an age appropriate way for the readership intended for this book.
At the back of this book there is a facts and photo section to support the story told (great for parents and older children hungry for a few more details).
This delightful series (Little People, Big Dreams) introduces young readers to outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream. Also in this series - Maya Angelou, Coco Chanel and Frida Kahlo.
Recommended for children 5 - 8 years.
